Dennis started a small carpentry
business, D & D Woodworking, in 1983. The dream was to build quality cabinetry. Dennis would do the building and his wife Sharon would do the staining, finishing
and any bookkeeping the business generated. To help supplement their income between
custom cabinet jobs, Dennis took on remodeling and small construction jobs.
Dennis carried his great attention to detail and skill as a finish carpenter into his building projects. He discovered that
he loved building houses. As the projects increased in size, the need to hire
a crew became apparent. The demand for new construction increased as did the
size and scope of the projects. The cabinetry business faded and new home construction
& additions became the central focus. Our clients became our best advertisement. The focus of the business is not
just to build a house but to construct quality homes for people.
Dennis and Sharon decided that quality and craftsmanship would go into every home they built.
Dennis decided the best way to do this was to work on one project at a time. He would be on the job site working
with his crew daily to insure that each home was constructed to his standards. Sharon
worked in the office to insure that the business end flowed as well as the construction end of the business.
In 1995 the name of the business was changed to Dunbar Custom Homes to
more accurately reflect what the business did. At the same time Dennis chose
to backup his claim to quality by guaranteeing his buildings for five years when built to his specifications.
Dunbar Custom Homes has built many beautiful homes and buildings over the years. The
projects have ranged in size from small camps to large buildings, such as the Recreation Center at Camp Modin. Over the years we have been very particular in our choice of material contractors and sub contractors assuring
our clients that the quality is maintained at all levels of the project. Our
motto is "if you can dream it we can build it."
Dennis, who is always looking to make his buildings unique to the client, has developed a way to custom turn logs to use as rails, posts and beams for our clients that are looking for more of a country look
to their projects.
